"Radio Sher-e-Punjab has listeners all over the world.
Therefore we give priority to breaking news of social,
political and cultural importance from South Asia
(Punjab & Pakistan) and the World in general." ―Ajit S. Badh
We are the first and only established South
Asian station that owns and operates its own frequency. We have been
involved in the community since 2001 and various SCMO channels. We have
a strong affiliation with the South Asian community as we were the
first station to serve the community. Our experienced on‑air talent has
deep roots in the south Asian community. Our services extend to Indo‑Canadian, Indo‑American, Indo‑Pakistanis, Afghan and Persian
communities. We serve the following markets with our current
programming:| Region | South Asian Listeners |
| Greater Vancouver | 350,000 |
| Pacific Northwest (besides Vancouver) |
80,000 |
| Seattle | 25,000 |
| Washington | 10,000 |
| Alberta | 155,000 |
| Manitoba | 100,000 |
| Saskatoon | 12,000 |
| Winnipeg | 115,000 |
According to the current research on the CRTC website we have a 43% market share indicating we have a large, captive audience.
With respect to community involvement, AM 1550 has raised over $2.5 Million for the multi-cultural organization called Five Rivers which provides various services. We have raised $100,000 for the Okanagan fires and thousands for local food banks and hospitals in the greater Vancouver area including the Royal Colombian Hospital and Surrey‑Richmond Memorial Hospital.
The latest fund raising was done for the University College of Fraser Valley in Abbotsford where we raised over $500,000 in only 8 hours. Prior to that, we raised $1 Million for the Pakistan earthquake victims in 2005.
From AM 1550's ability to raise funds it is quite apparent that it is a powerful advertising medium.
